Sick-Leave/Short-Term Disability Adjudication
Sick-leave coverage protects the most valuable asset of any organization - its employees. That is why Cowan Insurance Group has designed a Short-Term Disability (STD) Adjudication Program that focuses on helping organizations maintain, and enhance, the health of their employees.
Our claims assessment approach is consistent, fair and equitable for all employees. This allows us to balance the cost-effectiveness of the short-term disability management program for the organization with the quality, timeliness and fairness of treatment for the disabled employee.
What We Offer
- A Primary Case Coordinator who is dedicated to assisting the disabled employee while working with all stakeholders (physicians, unions, employers).
- A Medical Certificate of Disability that has been designed to be both clear and easy to use. It is completed by the employee's treating physician and submitted to Cowan to allow us to assess your employee's eligibility for salary continuance.
- Timely Adjudication. Our initial assessment and recommendations are completed within the time period agreed to by Cowan and your organization.
- On-Going Intervention. We quickly identify any obstacles that may prevent an employee's return to work, including assessing and addressing any relevant issues and barriers.
- Rehabilitation. We provide claimants with the assistance they need to return to work as soon as their medical condition allows, whether to their own job - or with some type of modified work or schedule.
Benefits of Our Adjudication Program
At Cowan, one of the main benefits of our adjudication program is the level of contact that we maintain with every employee who is receiving disability benefits
through our Medical Case Management Program. This allows us to:
- Identify treatment options or alternatives to help the employee regain optimum health which will reduce their length of disability
- Offer the possibility of facilitating some appointments for tests, specialist opinions or work conditioning programs
- Define a work accommodation plan according to the employee's functional abilities, and provide for return-to-work facilitation and continuous follow-up.
